Saturday May 12, 2007 Post Office food drive
Letter carriers from the Cloquet Post Office had lots of help collecting food left out for the local area food shelf. Homeowners left food out to be picked up by letter carriers & helpers carried it back to vehicles that followed the Post Office trucks. The food was then delivered to the Post Office where it was removed from bags & boxed & canned goods sorted by some of Carlton High School's Baseball team members & Gloria Berger (Qwest Pioneer). Sorted boxes were then put in a trailer & hauled by another crew to the Salvation Army which is Cloquet's food shelf. Suzy Berger (wife of letter carrier Jason Berger who is Gloria's son) made the Sloppy Joe lunch for helpers & Post Office workers.
Carol from the United Way was there to see that help was where it was needed most.

The weather co-operated this year so everything stayed dry & the guys from the Carlton High School's Baseball team were the best group Gloria has ever worked the food drive with as they were there all day (2 shifts of 10 each **their coach stayed for both shifts**) and they did the lifting, carrying, weighing in & helping fold the bags (so they could be used later by the food shelf). The Post Office collected more than 2000 pounds than they did last year. Gloria's 7 month old granddaughter Cora made a special appearance in the outfit Gloria bought her for the occasion. It had an envelope on it & said "Send me to Grandma" "Special Delivery"
Marilyn Johnson followed a letter carrier in Superior, WI to help them with their food drive. Marilyn's husband Steve is a letter carrier there
