Thursday March 12 the Minnesota Chapter Qwest Pioneers did it's 3rd Readers
for Life Presentation at the Crossroads Elementary School in St Paul with Members of the USA Women's Hockey Team. Jan Swenson, Harry Osborn, LaVaughn Osborn, Donna Ness (Cat in the Hat) and Karen Jothen (Spirit) along with Hockey Players Molly Engstrom, Erin McKenzie and Angela Ruggiera gave a presentation to the 2nd through 4th grade classes. Molly, Erin and Angela told the students about themselves, had them quess each players favorite book and talked about why reading was important to them. Molly, Erin and Angela asked the students to try to remember their player number so they could root for them at the next Winter Olympics. |

Harry, Jan and Donna also talked about favorite books and why reading was so important. At the end of the presentation Erin, Molly and Angela lead the students in a Hockey USA Cheer and everyone sang Happy Birthday to LaVaughn. Along with the Presentation by the Pioneers and Hockey Player we left over 800 books at Crossroads School for each student, Kindergarten through 6th grade and 4 year old Pre-school along with several books for their Library. We also gave the school copies of the Power Up To Read books and teachers guide. Jan returned the next day to drop off 6 copies of Somalia and Hmong Bilingual books for their library (2 of each story). |
