QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
April 27, 2011
The meeting was called to order by Betty Lee at 10:10 a.m. Pioneer members present were Don Fennessy, Char Reno, John Warren, Bill Carlson, Betty Lee, and Nancy Eilefson.
Financial Report – We discussed the financial report from JoAnn. The Centennial is this fall in Boston. A thank you note was received from Union Gospel Mission for our donation.
Life Member Report – There were 24 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life Member Luncheon. The food keeps getting better! The next Life Member Luncheon will be May 18, 2011. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.
Hug a Bear Report – We brought 20 bears to St. Luke’s in April. We brought head coverings to St. Luke’s (31); Moose Lake Hospital (12); and Essentia - formerly St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic (12). A thank you was received from Toby at Essentia Health Cancer Center for the head coverings.
Chapter Update – The next Chapter meeting is June 10 in St. Cloud.
Other – Nancy left a sympathy card at the church for Claire Bostyancic’s funeral. Char will get a coffeepot. Don will check with Durbin to see what their needs are. (He has been given some toiletries.) Betty delivered books to Carlton School for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Barnum school 5th grade also received a box of books. We will check on the Little Red Book Shelf. Nancy will check with Grandma’s Marathon for a raffle donation for the Spirit of Service. Nancy took books for Bayview; Don took books for North Shore School.
Motion by Nancy with a second by Don to donate $200.00 to Silver Bay Veterans Home for a spring event. Motion passed. Motion by Don with a second by Bill to send $100.00 to First Witness. Motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.

Our next board meeting is Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.
The “Spirit of Service” ride will be July 16, 2011.
We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (after the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
