ARROWHEAD  MEETINGS

QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
February 23, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Nancy Eilefson at 10:11 a.m. Pioneer members present were Don Fennessy, John Warren, Bill Carlson, Nancy Eilefson, and Char Reno.

OLD BUSINESS: Financial Report – We looked at the financial statements and discussed the budget. Some budget items suggested include kitchen supplies, Pioneer Tea/Membership Drive (perhaps in August to kick off the Life Member Luncheons), Memorial Garden, Life Member Luncheons, Spirit of Service Ride, postage and business supplies. We plan to complete the budget at the March meeting.

Life Member Report – We welcomed Art Wright, Chet Bianco, Karen Lucas (new to Pioneer Life Member Luncheons), and Jeanne Tingwald (new to this area) to our February luncheon. The meal was good and plentiful. We enjoyed hearing from Charlie Fetters, Second Level, Duluth. He spoke on his personal philosophy and the company merger. He was well received; we hope he will join us again.

Hug a Bear Report – A thank you was received from the Red Cross; 20 bears were delivered to them. Nancy will forward the note to Dave Hemmer for archiving.

Chapter Update – No report.

Other: Tom, Kathy and Paul Bernier raised $5,000.00 for ALS. We donated $590.00 from our raffle! Woo hoo! We have a motorcycle to raffle off for the Spirit of Service Ride. Harley Davidson is partnering with us. They will provide advertising and consultation for flyers, posters, raffle tickets and shirts. The permit request has been signed by the City of Carlton and mailed to the Gambling Board for approval.

NEW BUSINESS: We discussed March Food Shelf giving and the need to do it at this meeting rather than wait until March. After discussion, it was felt that our gifts would be more effective if we gave to Second Harvest rather than individual Food Shelves. Second Harvest Northern Lakes and North Central together serve a larger area than what we could. Motion by Bill with a second by Don that we give $600.00 to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in Duluth and $100 to Second Harvest North Central Food Bank in Grand Rapids. Motion passed.

WRAP UP: The meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
