ARROWHEAD  MEETINGS
QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
July 27, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Betty Lee at 10:00 a.m. Those present were John Warren, Carrie Amann, Don Fennessy, Bill Carlson, Betty Lee, Nancy Eilefson, and JoAnn Cooper.

OLD BUSINESS:
Financial Report – JoAnn reported on our finances through June. Nancy will send the information on Playground for Everybody to Dave. Checks were given to Caring Bridge and the Proctor Playground for Everybody.

Life Member Report – The next Life Member Luncheon will be September 21. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.

Hug a Bear Report – 20 hug a bears were given to St. Luke’s Hospital. We gave 19 head coverings to St. Mary’s and 18 to St. Luke’s. A thanks you note was received from St. Luke’s.

Chapter Update – There was a question about the gift for the Spirit of Service ride from the chapter. We still need donations for the MACV bags.

Other – Bill explained to Carrie about the Life Line installations done in the Duluth area by Pioneers. The Spirit of Service finances were discussed. We have almost $10,000.00 to give to MACV. Motion by Bill with a second by John to give up to $150.00 to even off the MACV donation to $10,000.00. Motion passed. The Carlton Development Corp. will be constructing a playground. Funds are needed. JoAnn will issue the voucher per the May 25th meeting vote.

NEW BUSINESS: JoAnn suggested making bears out of a loved ones clothing. The question was asked if we are doing the Prepared to Learn school supplies drive. Motion by Don with a second by Nancy to do a Tupperware fundraiser. Motion passed. We will decide later where these funds should go. JoAnn will check with Pat about mailing the Pioneer Social invites out of the Mail Center in Minneapolis. Refreshments for the Social will be paid for by the Arrowhead Council. A sympathy card was mailed to Dan Shearer; his wife passed away. Char and Nancy will deliver books to the Little Red Book Shelf at the Lake Superior Dental Office in West Duluth beginning in September. Motion by Bill with a second by Betty that if we have enough cookbooks we will get a table at the Forbes Bazaar. Motion passed.

Our next board meeting is August 24 at noon in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.


We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (after the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
