QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
June 22, 2011
The meeting was called to order by Betty Lee at 10:07 a.m. Pioneer members present were John Warren, Don Fennessy, Bill Carlson, Char Reno, JoAnn Cooper, Betty Lee, and Nancy Eilefson.
OLD BUSINESS: We looked over the minutes from the May meeting.
Financial Report – JoAnn explained the financial report. We discussed the Spirit of Service finances.
Life Member Report – There were 25 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the June Life Member Luncheon. We had a picnic lunch and shared jokes. We all enjoyed it! John presented a $200.00 check to the VFW to help them relocate. The next Life Member Luncheon will be in September. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.
Hug a Bear Report – We delivered 20 bears to St. Luke’s. We gave 23 head coverings to St. Mary’s and 19 to St. Luke’s.
Chapter Update – Most of the councils were represented at the Chapter meeting. Betty brought 8 dozen sewn bags; they were stuffed throughout the meeting. There is still need of toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other small toiletries. Century Link Vice President Eric Genrich spoke to the group. There was a discussion on the scholarships that were awarded. The next meeting is in September in the metro area.
Other – A thank you note was received from Silver Bay Veterans Home for our gift. Motion by Char with a second by Bill to give $200.00 to the Boundaryless Playground in Proctor. Motion passed.
NEW BUSINESS: Motion by Don with a second by John to give $150 to Caring Bridge. Motion passed. Obituaries of 2 telephone company employees were shared. The tentative date and time for the tea is August 24 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. We will have coffee, tea and sweets. We will have our August board meeting at noon that day. We hope to have the invitations out by July 27. Char and Nancy will check with Terri Newman about the Little Red Bookshelf.

Our next board meeting is July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.
We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (after the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
