The meeting was called to order by Betty Lee at 10:07 a.m. Pioneer members
present were Char Reno, Don Fennessy, Bill Carlson, John Warren, Betty Lee, and
Nancy Eilefson.
OLD BUSINESS:
Financial Report – Betty presented JoAnn’s report.
Life Member Report – There were 25 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life
Member Luncheon. The next Life Member Luncheon will be June 15, 2011 – our
indoor picnic. Everyone is asked to tell a joke! We won’t meet again until
September. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.
Hug a Bear Report – We brought 20 bears to St. Luke’s as well as 18 head
coverings. We brought 20 head coverings to St. Mary’s. We were invited to St.
Luke’s May volunteer recognition luncheon for the hug a bear work we do! We were
given a copy of a note that a patient’s mom had written to St. Luke’s about the
care and the hug a bear her daughter received. Nancy will send a copy to Dave
Hemmer for archiving. We received a carload of fiberfill from St. Cloud. Nancy
and Betty Chacich met Barb and Dave Hemmer in Pine City to pick it up. It filled
the trunk and the backseat! It will stuff lots of bears!
Chapter Update – We need to continue collecting toiletries for the Chapter
project. We are sewing bags for the toiletries. The next chapter meeting is June
10 in St. Cloud.
Other – Almost 400 raffle tickets have been sold for the Spirit of Service ride!
There will be an open house at Harley Davidson from June 24-26 and we need help
selling raffle tickets at the store in Canal Park and at the store on the
Stebner Road.
NEW BUSINESS:
Carlton is looking for help to update their park. Betty will check with Carlton
Chamber of Commerce to see what their needs are. Motion by Don with a second by
John to donate $200.00 for their playground if that is their need. Motion
passed. Charlie Fetters would like the front display case updated with current
happenings. We will work on that on Monday, June 13. Sympathy cards were sent to
the families of Rod Peterson, Robert Anderson, and Joyce Dodd. We noted the
passing of Muriel Martinson and Lester W. Erickson. Cards were sent because
Nancy didn’t know where to send them. A thank you note was received from Bay
View School for the books we gave them. Nancy will send it to Dave Hemmer for
archiving. We discussed the VFW building move. Motion by John with a second by
Char to send them $200.00 to help with the move. Motion passed.
