QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
September 28, 2011
The meeting was called to order by Betty Lee at 10:01 a.m. Pioneer members present were Don Fennessy, Betty Lee, John Warren, Bill Carlson, Char Reno, and Nancy Eilefson.
Financial Report – The report wasn’t available.
Life Member Report – There were only 18 at the October Life Member Luncheon; some were no shows so we took up a collection to help defray those costs. We welcomed 3 new folks – George Walker, Bev Denyes, and Dan Shearer.
Hug a Bear Report – We brought 20 bears to St. Luke’s. We brought 15 head coverings to St. Mary’s and 14 to St. Luke’s.
Chapter Update – The Chapter meeting was September 9 at Coon Rapids VFW. JoAnn was voted in as the 2012 Chapter President. A vice president is needed. There will be a Ronald McDonalds fundraiser brunch on September 25. The Pioneer’s “Dish It Up” program will run September 11-25. Prepared to Learn will be filling 635 backpacks; 127 will go to Nettleton in Duluth. 1300 calendars were ordered for 2012; Betty ordered 50 for the Arrowhead Council. Calendar sales will support 3 scholarships in 2012. Mollie Clemen is the management liaison for the Metro area. Carol Barthel reported 6505 volunteer hours for June. Dave Hemmer reported that the telephone truck has not been repaired; it is in many pieces. The money paid for restoration has been returned; we will not pursue restoration. The Western Plains Council has dissolved. Members will join either the Rochester or St. Cloud Council. The next chapter meeting will be December 9.
Other – The Forbes Bazaar will be October 22 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Help is needed.
Help is needed to move playground equipment from UWS to Carlton on October 1. Don Mills passed away; a sympathy card was sent. We sold about $445 worth of Tupperware which should yield a profit of about $179

Our next board meeting is October 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.
There were 28 guests at the October Life Member Luncheon. Marlys Wisch and Patrick Kittler spoke about Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Our next luncheon will be November 16 at the VFW in Lincoln Park/West End. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.
We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (after the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
