ARROWHEAD  MEETINGS
 

PIONEER MEETING - ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
April 25, 2012 

The meeting was called to order by Marlys Wisch at 1:03 p.m.  Pioneer members present were Char Reno, John Warren, Marlys Wisch, Bill Carlson and Nancy Eilefson.  JoAnn Cooper is in Monroe, LA for training. 

Motion by John with a second by Bill to approve the minutes of the March meeting.  Motion passed. 

OLD BUSINESS:
Financial Report – Motion by Marlys with a second by Nancy to approve the financial report.  Motion passed.  

Life Member Report – There were 22 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life Member Luncheon.  The next Life Member Luncheon will be May 16, 2012.  All are welcome; reservations are necessary.  The menu is set for the next 2 months – pork loin dinner for May and a picnic lunch for June.  We need a new social director starting in September; Olga has retired.  We hope to have a coffee party at Chris Jensen.  Nancy will check with Chris Jensen.  Hours spent visiting Pioneers in nursing homes are reportable as volunteer hours.   

Hug a Bear Report – We brought 20 bears to St. Luke’s and 24 to the Life Care Center.  A thank you note was received from the Life Care Center.  Nancy will send it to Dave for archiving.  We brought 21 head coverings to both Essentia and St. Luke’s. 

Chapter Update – CenturyLink has committed to a payroll deduction for Pioneers dues.  All badge forms were submitted. 

Other – A sympathy card was sent to the family of Harold Wahlstrom and a thinking of you card was sent to Joe Swenson.  The Life Members all signed a card that was sent to Olga.  Thank you notes were received from CHUM, the Joe Gomer monument committee, and Northern Lakes Food Bank.  A note was received from Mary Jo Hawkinson.  All will be sent to Dave for archiving.  We tabled Birthday in a Bag and cell phone recycling until next month.  Gary Greb will be working with us on cell phones.  John is still working on a microphone; he may have one working.  Motion by Nancy with a second by Char to authorize John to spend up to $200.00 for microphone supplies.  Motion passed.  The Big Red Book Shelf is a partnership project with CWA 7214 and the Pioneers.  Terri Newman delivered books in April.  By consensus, we approved Nancy to sign the contracts for the kick off dinner at Blackwoods on June 14 for the Spirit of Service Ride.  Nancy will drop them off at Blackwoods this afternoon.  The ride will begin at the PowerHouse in Proctor.  We have already received some good donations. 

NEW BUSINESS: A Tupperware Fundraiser was approved by consensus.  Motion by Nancy with a second by Bill to purchase 50 bags for $31.50 plus tax and shipping as applicable from Oriental Trading Center.  These bags are for St. Luke’s Breast Cancer Center for newly diagnosed patients to keep track of all the information they are given.  Char will place the order. Motion by Nancy with a second by Bill to donate $100.00 to the Monument Restoration Fund of Gary-New Duluth.  Motion passed.  If possible we will have Telephone Pioneers of America engraved on the paver stones.  The Pioneers were invited to a Senior Carnival at the Eveleth Range Recreation Civic Center.  Nancy will scan the invitation and send it to Dave to post on website. 

WRAP UP: Motion by Char with a second by Bill to adjourn.  The meeting adjourned at 2:29 p.m.  Thanks to Bill for bringing treats.  Nancy will bring them next month.

Our next board meeting is May 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the 2nd Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (before the board meeting) on the 4th Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects.
