The meeting was called to order by John Warren at 1:09 p.m. Pioneer members present were Bill Carlson, John Warren, Char Reno and Nancy Eilefson.

Financial Report – No report presented.

Life Member Report – There were 18 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life Member Luncheon. Jim, from the DTA, presented information about the STRIDE program. The next Life Member Luncheon will be March 21, 2012. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.

Hug a Bear Report – We still need to order labels. The hug-a-bear group will work on this. We delivered 20 bears to St. Luke’s. 21 head coverings were delivered to St. Luke’s and 21 were delivered to Essentia. If Betty isn’t able to deliver bears to Life Care, Char said she would.

Chapter Update – No report.

Other – Motion by Nancy with a second by Bill to send $100.00 to the Northland Veterans Services Committee, PO Box 161277, Duluth, 55816 for the Joe Gomer monument. Motion passed. John has the information about recycling cell phones. He will bring it to the next meeting.

Motion by Bill with a second by Char to send $600.00 to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Duluth, and $100.00 to Second Harvest North Central Food Bank, Grand Rapids. Motion passed. Motion by Char with a second by Bill to send $100.00 to CHUM Food Shelf, Duluth. Motion passed.

Nancy left a sympathy card from the Pioneers at Ernie Rouleau’s funeral.

We discussed doing “Birthday in a Bag”. We will give this some thought and discuss at our next meeting.

We received a sight-impaired telephone for the museum from the family of Gordon Hawkinson. Bill sent the family a thank you note.

Our next board meeting is March 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. Char will bring treats. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.

July 21, 2012 - Spirit of Service Ride

We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (before the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
