PIONEER MEETING
ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
February 27, 2013

The meeting was called to order by Marlys Wisch at 1:00 p.m. Pioneer members present were Bill Carlson, JoAnn Cooper, John Warren, Marlys Wisch and Char Reno.

Minutes of the January 23, 2013 meeting were accepted.

OLD BUSINESS:
Financial Report – We exceeded our 65% requirement for charitable expenses by $2,300.00. JoAnn questioned why the Spirit of Service donations were not listed on the 2012 gift list. JoAnn will email the 2013 budget proposal to all Pioneer Board members and members will email acceptance back to her.

Life Member Report – There were 18 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the February Life Member Luncheon. The men outnumbered the women.

Charitable Report – We gave 20 Hug-a-Bears to St. Luke’s and 24 to Lake Superior Life Care Center. Nancy delivered 80 books to the Big Red Book Shelf at Lake Superior Community Health Center Dental Clinic. JoAnn reported that the Century Link office is having lunches and a raffle to raise money for CHUM and the Union Gospel Mission. The lunches will be March 6, 13, 20, 26, and 28. She would like Pioneer members to work the March 13th lunch. Char will for sure; other members will check their calendars. The raffle drawing will be on March 22nd. Motion by Bill with a second by John to give $600.00 to Duluth Second Harvest Food Bank, $100.00 to Grand Rapids Second Harvest Food Bank, and $100.00 to CHUM Food Shelf. Motion passed. JoAnn will take care of the donations.

Chapter Update – JoAnn will attend the March 15th meeting in Coon Rapids. The Regional meeting will be April 23 through 26 in Monroe, LA. The meeting will be about fundraising, membership, and how to keep the Pioneers going. Century Link is giving JoAnn non-pay time to attend the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:
Members were given the 2013 Pioneer Meeting treat schedule. JoAnn explained that the Century Link Wholesale Departments is having a 15-year celebration June 10-14. She would like the Pioneers to put something together.

Motion by Bill with a second by Char to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.

Our next board meeting is March 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month.

We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday and at 11:00 a.m. (before the board meeting) on the fourth Wednesday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us.
