QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
March 18, 2009 

The meeting was called to order by Joann Cooper at 10:05 a.m.  Pioneer members present were Olga Stanley, John Warren, Don Fennessy, Joann Cooper, and Nancy Eilefson. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Financial Report – Joann reported the balance in our account.  No further report. 

Life Member Report – We will be having a Life Member Luncheon today at the VFW.  This will be our first luncheon since last November.   

Hug a Bear Report – Three boxes of hug-a-bears were shipped to Afghanistan. They went to an active soldier with Task Force Med. This group of doctors work with the clergy who have active contact with the children over there.  A picture of the boxes with the above caption is posted on the Pioneer website. 

Chapter Update – The Chapter meeting is Friday, March 20.  

Other – The “dog tags” have been received. 

NEW BUSINESS: Motion by John with a second by Don we send $200 to the Duluth area food shelf and $100 each to the food shelves in Hibbing, Grand Rapids, and Virginia.  Motion passed.  The “Spirit of Service” ride will be July 11.  The details are still being worked out.  We will have a Pioneer Luncheon on April 9 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. to raise funds for the “Spirit of Service” ride.  The menu will be grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup.  We will have a social on Wednesday, April 29 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Melrose Building.  The social will be a way to honor our Life Members and working members as well as encourage others to join the Pioneers. 

WRAP UP: 

Motion by Olga with a second by John to adjourn.  Motion passed.  The meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.

Our next meeting is April 15 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth.   All Pioneers and guests are welcome. 

There were 20 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life Member Luncheon.  All are welcome; reservations are necessary.  The next Life Member Luncheon will be April 15.  We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the first and third Monday of each month to work on Hug a Bears or other projects.  Please feel free to join us.
