QWEST PIONEERS MEETING
ARROWHEAD COUNCIL
May 20, 2009

The meeting was called to order by JoAnn Cooper at 10:02 a.m. Pioneer members present were JoAnn Cooper, Barb Cane, LaVaughn and Harry Osborn, John Warren, Don Fennessy, Bill Carlson, Nancy Eilefson, Olga Stanley, and Char Reno. We welcome LaVaughn and Harry to our meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Financial Report - Barb reported on our finances. We have a balance of $4,005.02. As long as we designate money to the charitable account as we gift it, we should be all right.

Life Member Report – The luncheon is today. The Pioneer Social was a success.

Hug-a-Bear Report – Don gave hug-a-bears to his contacts. We are still looking for outlets – perhaps dentists, nursing homes, or hospitals. Don will check with the police group.

Chapter Update – The next chapter meeting is June 12 in St. Cloud. Minnesota won the Chapter of the Year Award for 2008 at the assembly in New Orleans

Other – Plans are coming along for the Spirit of Service Ride.

NEW BUSINESS: Char donated a red, white, and blue afghan for a raffle. We will ask John Stanoch to donate phone cards to send to the troops overseas. The bicycle tram will run from Ortonville to Red Wing. Harry offered suggestions as to what community service projects we might be interested in. They include: Readers for Life through the Qwest Foundation, Valentine bags for Women’s Shelter, wheelchair pockets, and lap robes. He also mentioned the Easter egg hunt they have in Faribault.

Our next meeting is June 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Lounge, Fourth Floor Melrose Building in Duluth. All Pioneers and guests are welcome.

The “Spirit of Service” ride will be July 11.

There were 29 Pioneers, Partners, and guests at the Life Member Luncheon. The next Life Member Luncheon will be June 17. All are welcome; reservations are necessary.

We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the first and third Monday of each month to work on Hug-a-Bears or other projects. Please feel free to join us. Contact Char at 879-2552 or Nancy at 624-0031 for more information
